“Tour de Paris” Bicycle Event CYCLE THE PIKE!
Paris, KY, October 19, 2013: The Paris Main Street Program, in partnership with the Paris-Bourbon County YMCA and Quillin Leather and Tack, is proud to present the “Tour de Paris” Bicycle Ride on Saturday October 19th. This history making event is for anyone with a bicycle that’s looking for something fun to do on a beautiful autumn Saturday in the Bluegrass.
For the first time, the Paris Pike Corridor will host an escorted bike ride, having one lane closed on each side of the corridor from 9:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. All hands are on deck to make sure that cyclists enjoy the 5th most beautiful Corridor in the United States as safely as possible, gathering assistance from the Kentucky State Police, Lexington and Paris Police and Fire Departments, Bourbon County Sherriff, and Hutchison Volunteer Fire Department.
There is a 24.2 mile ride beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Bourbon County Courthouse and runs through Downtown Paris, down Paris Pike Corridor, turning at the Thoroughbred Training Center in Lexington and looping back to the Bourbon County Courthouse. Additionally, there will be an option for a 13.4 mile ride, using the same (shorter) route on Paris Pike. Lastly, a FREE family fun ride will begin at 10:30 and showcase Downtown Paris’s new bike lanes as well as historic attractions.
Registration for the Paris Pike rides is $15 before and $20 the day of the event, and includes a dri-fit Tour de Paris shirt, goody bag, and wristband that allows for special promotions at participating Downtown businesses. All proceeds benefit the ongoing economic, promotional, educational and beautification projects of Downtown Paris and the Paris Main Street Program. Registration is available online at www.parisbourbonymca.org or call 859.987.6237 for more information on how to register. Come to Downtown Paris and be a part of history as we “Cycle the Pike!”
